Saturday March 6, 2010 - Monthly Drill
Saturday
March 6 was a beautiful day for a drill in Fair Harbor.
About 20 members turned out to learn and get experience with our new
thermal imaging camera. This new piece of equipment enables us to see a
victim of a fire through a dense smoke or a source of fire behind a
wall.
The department trained with the camera in our front firehouse filled
with smoke generated for training purposes.

Tuesday October 13, 2009 - Two Houses Destroyed in Ocean Beach - Fire Departments Save Further Houses
Fourteen Fair Harbor Firefighters responded to a mutual aid call from
Ocean Beach under the command of Chief Scott Cherveney. On arrival two
houses were fully engulfed in fire and were tragically lost. Fair Harbor
was assigned command of the East side of the fireground and assisted
Ocean Beach in saving two other houses that were in grave danger.

Sunday, September 20, 2009 - Ferry Fire
As many of you know, there was a fire on the Fire Island Belle this past weekend and the FHFD responded. The following is the FHFD's official report on the event. Our thanks to all the members of the Fire Department that did such a great job and to their colleagues in Kismet and Saltaire that assisted them in firefighting operations. Link to Report
Sunday, September 6, 2009 - Labor Day Parade
The
Fair Harbor Fire Department organized the Annual Labor Day Parade, with
participation from other Fire Island Fire Departments, and mainland Fire
Department bands. The kids dressed up this year in a "Flower Power"
theme in honor of the Woodstock anniversary.

Sunday, August 8, 2009 - Pancake Breakfast
The
pancake breakfast sponsored by the Fair Harbor Fire Department is a long
tradition going back longer than any current members can remember.
Not only is it a source of revenue to the department, but it's a
community event that residents and visitors look forward to. It brings
neighbors together for good, bountiful food at a reasonable price.
At
the breakfast, we sell special FHFD "booster" tee shirts. These
are very popular with kids and adults alike.

Saturday, August 1, 2009 - Ladder Drill
The Fair Harbor Fire Department in it's effort to stay always
prepared, drilled on the use of ladders and ropes. Although most
structures in our fire protection district seldom exceed two stories, it
is important to keep our members trained the use of ladders should an
emergency occur. It is necessary for every firefighter to know the use
of ladders and the how to get hoses and tools to the roofs of a burning
building. Here our department uses our firehouse to train on.

- East Coast Firefighter Ski Race
Members of the Dept joined Firefighters from across the East
Coast to participate in the 36th Annual Firefighter Ski Race at Hunter
mountain. It was a great day. Proceeds from this event will be donated
to the N.Y. Firefighters Burn Center Foundation.
