Fair Harbor Fire District

The Fair Harbor Fire District was established in 1931 and is responsible for providing the facilities necessary for fire and EMS protection in Fair Harbor.

Dunewood and Lonelyville have their own Fire Districts which contribute to the Fair Harbor Fire District in return for fire and EMS protection service.

The Fire District covers a three square mile response area, serving a summer population of 2500 and includes 600 private homes, 3 businesses, 3 docks, and one mile of shoreline.

The district firehouse, located in the center of the Fair Harbor commercial district, houses our 14 emergency response vehicles, provides storage for all our equipment, space for training, and offices for the commissioners and chief.

The Fire District makes the firehouse available for community events such as Wednesday kids' movie nights, bingo, and community association meetings. It also makes its land available for the bay beach, the playground, the sailboat beach, the wagon stand, and the plaza for community events including the Pine Walk fair.

The District holds a meeting on the third Sunday of every month at Noon which is open to the public.

The commissioners are elected by registered voters in Fair Harbor. Elections are conducted each December. There are five commissioners who serve five year staggered terms so each year one commissioner is elected. The commissioners select a chairman and appoint a treasurer and secretary.
